Scholarship Program

Thanks to an unprecedented and prescient collaboration by community, local and State agency stakeholders, Hanauma Bay was designated the State of Hawaii’s first Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD) on October 23, 1967. This designation launched the concept of Marine Protected Areas in Hawai’i, and over the years ten other treasured marine environments joined Hanauma as MLCDs.

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Hanauma’s designation as an MLCD, Friends of Hanauma Bay launched the Friends of Hanauma Bay Scholarship Program in 2017. Our scholarships benefit qualified graduating seniors from the Henry J. Kaiser High School Wipeout Crew Environmental Club. We are grateful to all the generous donors who contribute to our legacy commitment to Hanauma Bay, and the extraordinary Wipeout Crew that encourages the next generation of leaders to continue conserving, protecting, and restoring it.
