Friends of Hanauma Bay Board Members

Jennifer Barrett, President

Born and raised on the island of Oahu, Jennifer has served as the president of the Friends of Hanauma Bay since January 2008.

Ms. Barrett also serves on the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council, the executive council of the Network of Volunteer Leaders, and the executive committee of the OCEANIA Chapter of the National Marine Educator’s Association.

She proudly supports the Friends’ mission to preserve and protect one of the island’s healthiest reef ecosystems and beloved locales. Her goals for the coming year are to work with her fellow board members to clarify and actively pursue organizational strategies for fulfilling FOHB’s stated mission and to expand the Friends’ membership and support base.

Christine Brammer, Treasurer

Chris is the Oahu Programs Coordinator for NOAA’s Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. Her focus is on marine education and outreach programs in Hawaii including the sanctuary’s signature project, the Sanctuary Ocean Count. Chris also develops educational publications, displays and signs, manages the sanctuary’s website, and works with sanctuary interns and volunteers.

Laurel Anderson

Laurel was born in Honolulu, attended and finished school in California, fortunately she was able to return home to the islands. In 1997 because of a strong passion for the ocean she became a volunteer docent for the Hanauma Bay Education Program and at the same time joined the Friends of Hanauma Bay. She was asked to serve on the Board of Directors in 2000 and in 2001 to serve as Treasurer which she did and set a record of seven years ending her tenure in December 2007. She is the second longest serving active member on the board and time permitting still dives and snorkels the therapeutic always exciting Bay.

Laurel along with many dedicated individuals could see the need for an appropriate venue in which to educate the public on the uniquely beautiful yet fragile living reef of the bay. With combined efforts the Hanauma Bay Education Center came to fruition.

Noel Tigley

Noel was born on the island of Cebu in the Southern Philippines but grew up in Toronto, Canada. A globe-trotting career in the high-tech industry brought him to Oahu in 2005 to attend the Executive MBA program at the University of Hawaii.

Over the years, Noel has come across all manner of creatures beneath the ocean so immediately took to Hanauma Bay like a fish to water. A past encounter with a rather large whale shark while diving near a marine reserve off the island of Leyte solidified his belief in the significance of Marine Life Conservation Districts.

Noel enjoys downtime with his beautiful wife Jennifer and two children near, around and more often in the ocean.

Ling Ong

I am a marine biologist, I researched the effects of parrotfish on the coral reefs in Hanauma Bay. I am also a volunteer with St. Francis Hospice and a member of the Honolulu Mindfulness Community.
