Honoring Chuck and Carol Harms

It was a beautiful "ceremony" Sunday, March 6th honoring Chuck and Carol Harms for their amazing volunteer work on the landscape at the Bay. A number of Board members and Bay staffers joined in the joyous celebration for these modest heroes.

For many, many years the Harmses have spent almost every day (when in Hawaii) planting and maintaining the grounds in the lower Bay. Their work predates the formulation of the Friends of Hanauma Bay and they are long-time members of FOHB.

The plaque attached to the bench reads:

This bench stands as a symbol of sincere gratitude for Chuck and Carol Harms of Illinois, volunteers who have shown their aloha for Hanauma Bay by spending years tirelessly planting and tending the landscape in this area.

While the Friends' Board had approved funding for the bench, a generous supporter who shares our gratitude for Carol and Chuck, came forward and covered the cost. He insisted on remaining anonymous.

Carol and Chuck return to Illinois next week and we'll eagerly await their return in December.
